The requirement was to check insulation piercing connectors on the assembly line, at a processing rate of 10 parts per second. The cable colour must be checked, in addition to the position of the cable head, the measurement of the piercing contact aperture, and the absence of sheathing in areas not involved. The system must interface at high speed with the assembly machine for real-time selection.
A group of three cameras with macro optics makes it possible to frame parts with dimensions of just millimetres using high-resolution capability. A lighting system, which we developed using fibre optic channels, illuminates the area involved with high power and directional light, enabling the required speed to be reached. A graphical interface and efficient communication protocol guarantee the flow of correct data to the machine.
